A hot upper floor in summer or cold bedrooms in winter can point to more than one issue. An attic assessment helps identify insulation gaps and air-leak paths while accounting for ventilation.

A room above a garage or beside an unheated area has a different boundary from the rest of the house. Tell us where the discomfort starts so we can assess the relevant walls or floor assembly.
An addition is an opportunity to address the building envelope while framing is accessible. Coordinate the material, required R-value and installation scope before finishes limit your options.

Practical insulation options for Southwest Boston
An attic upgrade and a new framed addition need different plans. We explain the options in relation to access, moisture conditions and the assembly—not just a preferred product.
Address accessible air-leak paths and insulation gaps together. The plan should preserve necessary ventilation and define where the heated or cooled space ends.
Open-cell or closed-cell spray foam may be appropriate for accessible wall or roof assemblies. Material selection includes moisture management and any required protective covering.
For some attics and framed cavities, blown-in or fiberglass insulation offers a practical alternative. We match the installation method to the space and its required insulation level.
When existing insulation must be removed, we include that work in the assessment. The estimate should make the removal area and replacement approach clear before installation.
We also assess Southwest Boston commercial properties, churches and nonprofit facilities. Discuss building use, access and the areas you want to improve. Qualifying commercial, church and nonprofit projects may be eligible for Mass Save incentives. Eligibility and approval must be checked for the specific project; funding is not guaranteed.

Useful questions before an insulation project
Here are a few things to consider when planning work on your Southwest Boston home.
We can assess the accessible boundary between the room and unheated space. The appropriate work depends on the floor and wall assemblies, existing insulation and available access.
Discuss the insulation scope while the framing is open. The plan needs to fit the assembly and applicable requirements, including any protective finishes and coordination with other trades.
Improved insulation and air sealing can reduce unwanted heat transfer and air leakage. Actual energy use also depends on the building, heating and cooling equipment, weather and household habits; no savings amount is promised.
Not necessarily. The assessment considers condition, coverage and the planned upgrade. We explain where retaining, adding or removing insulation may make sense for your project.
